As a mother of two boys, I intimately recognise and appreciate the physical and emotional demands of the postnatal period. I can honestly say I was quite shocked; the demand on my body and mind was at a level I had never experienced or could have prepared for.
Looking back now, I know that nothing can really prepare you for the first year of your baby’s life. There are so many factors that influence the journey, including your baby’s temperament, mother’s health prior to pregnancy, underlying health conditions, birth experience and postnatal support. I work with many mothers, and their experiences are diverse.
As the body heals from pregnancy and birth, many mothers experience fatigue, tension, hormonal shifts, and emotional overwhelm. These changes tend to persist right through the first 12 months. Shiatsu and Acupuncture offer gentle yet powerful ways to restore balance and support holistic postnatal recovery.
Such as:
- Relieve neck, shoulder, and back tension
- Support pelvic and abdominal recovery
- Promote hormonal balance and lactation
- Improve sleep quality and relaxation
- Regulate the nervous system and mood
- Ease digestive discomfort and fatigue
These treatments can assist a mother to regulate the nervous system, relieve pain, and support emotional well-being. By working with the body’s energy channels, Shiatsu and Acupuncture help restore flow and vitality, supporting both physical healing and emotional grounding. There is a saying that says it takes a village to help raise a child. We also need to realise that the same level of care and collective effort is needed to nurture and sustain the well-being of the mother.
The early months of motherhood can feel both beautiful and demanding. Taking time to care for yourself allows you to meet this new phase with greater strength and calm. Through gentle, trauma-informed touch and Acupuncture, mothers can experience deep restoration and reconnection — feeling supported, centred, and renewed.
At my private home clinic in North Balwyn, I offer trauma-informed Shiatsu treatments designed especially for mothers. Sessions are held on a futon at floor level, creating a calm, safe space where you can rest — baby welcome too.
If you’re seeking trauma-informed postnatal care, I’d love to support you.
