When I first began working in the world of health and healing, my path was guided by a deep desire to hold space for people—to walk alongside them, especially during tender moments of transition, challenge, or transformation.

Today, as a Chinese Medicine and Shiatsu practitioner, that desire continues to shape how I show up in the clinic, particularly when supporting clients on their fertility journeys.

Fertility is an intimate and emotional journey filled with unknowns. And for many people, especially those in same-sex relationships, gender-diverse communities, or pursuing alternative paths to parenthood, it can be made even more complex by systems that weren’t built with them in mind.

Unfortunately, many patients still encounter assumptions, like the presumption of a heterosexual, cisgender couple’s journey—that don’t reflect their lived experience. From intake forms to questions that subtly imply you need to justify your body or your family structure.

These seemingly small things can create big feelings: of exclusion, invisibility, or the need to explain your personal life during an already vulnerable time. It’s in these small moments that trust can either be built—or lost. Fertility is not a one-size-fits-all experience, and neither are the families we hope to build.

That’s why it’s vital that allied health practitioners—including those of us in Chinese Medicine—approach fertility support with sensitivity, openness, and a genuine awareness of diverse identities and family structures. You may come to us with a complex mix of hope, grief, and courage. The last thing you need is to feel like their journey isn’t “normal enough” to be supported with care and respect.

For LGBTQIA+ clients, for solo parents by choice, for people using donors or surrogates—the path to conception may look different. But the need for care that is affirming, respectful, and non-judgemental is universal.

Throughout my career in health, I’ve had the privilege of working in a range of clinical settings, supporting people from all walks of life. My background includes a decade in youth and community services, a foundation in Shiatsu, and training in trauma-informed care. These experiences continue to remind me that every person’s story is different—and that health care must be flexible and compassionate enough to honour that.

That’s the kind of care I aim to offer in my practice. Whether you’re a queer couple dreaming of starting a family, a gender-diverse person exploring your fertility options, or someone navigating conception as a solo parent—your experience is valid. Your identity and your path are welcome here.

Our session can be aimed at supporting hormonal balance, regulating menstrual cycles, calming the nervous system, and helping the body return to a state of equilibrium—whether you’re conceiving naturally, undergoing IVF, using assisted reproductive technologies, or simply deepening your understanding of your reproductive health. But no treatment—be it needles, herbs, or touch—works in isolation. Healing is most powerful when it happens within a relationship that is safe, non-judgemental, and affirming.

If you’re looking for support that sees you as a whole person—not just a reproductive system—I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
